Story Book Parade Costumes (Pete The Cat, Poppy Hat (from Trolls)

Happy to start blogging again and I hope this will be a more regular thing for me. I really enjoy writing and sharing all my creations with you. For my long time readers, thanks for being so supportive through out the years, even when I was out for like a whole year with barely any updates. This is a very happy new year update for me, I have been trying a lot of new things and crafts, designing some new and fun things, even attempted to make characters costume. I made my girls Pete the Cat hat and tail (“Pete the Cat” is a super fun series children books, the girls and us love it) and Poppy (from the movie Trolls) hat and dress for their school story book parade. I never do characters or cute crafts (just not great at them, so didn’t even bother to try). Surprisingly, they all came out pretty well and I actually enjoyed creating them. Lily (my younger daughter) even won 1st place for the costume contest for first grade. (Hurray!) She is super excited.

Lily in her Poppy Hat, she is loving it, and so do all her classmates. Those hair was a labour of love, I made it with strands of yarn (1 strand per stitch), then brushed and teased it out to create the soft troll hair look. It took me 3 days to do the hair alone, I blamed myself for being cheap and stubborn for not wanting to buy new brushes), the rest of the hat went pretty quickly though. I am so glad stubborn me finally took my hubby advice to get a new cleaning slicker dog brush to make the process went faster, so teasing with a metal shredding comb went smoother.

Fear of she would look like a crazy troll head (hat hair going every each way), I used hair spray to make sure the hair stayed together and styled the bang where it should be. It survived the day and looked just the same when she came home. (Phew)

It was a great start for the new year. I have plans for new creations in both knitting and crocheting, hopefully get to practice and do some calligraphy too. I don’t like my handwriting and really want to improve it badly. Sewing the Poppy costume was actually really fun too, I hadn’t sewn for a long time and it awakened my creativity drive even more.

As much as I want to blog in both Chinese and English, it is not realistic for me to take care of family, business and other aspects in life right now to make that happen. So I decided to write mostly in English since my Hong Kong followers are more likely to understand and able to read an English blog instead of the other way around. However, I will update the kids life mainly in Chinese blog (not regularly) because my Hong Kong /Chinese readers have been watching my kids grow up.

It was tough not able to write or read as much as I want, but I guess life threw you different things as once and you have to choose what is more important. I am lucky enough to do what I love and stay at home taking care of my family while making my hobbies a small business. I will try to start blogging about how to start a small business, so you can make your business dream come true too. It was scary at first, but you never success if you never try.

Happy Lunar New Year!

Thanks Charlotte. Sorry for the late reply, life has been crazy and Summer holiday started already. How’s life in London? I have a feeling your name is going to be big soon.

I just made a rectangle, folded it in half and stitched both sides up to form the hat. Then, stitched up the closed end corners to form the ears. Eyes were continuously looking at picture of the book and making adjustments. Hope this helps a little.
